India’s rising star, Yashasvi Jaiswal

In the third Test match against England at Rajkot, Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his exceptional talent by scoring his second double-century in Test cricket. Opening the innings for India, Jaiswal retired briefly after reaching his century on Day 3 but returned with a bang on Day 4 after Shubman Gill’s dismissal to notch up his second double-hundred. Remarkably, Jaiswal’s innings saw him equal the record for the most sixes in a Test innings, matching Wasim Akram’s tally of 12 sixes set back in 1996.

Adding to his achievements, Jaiswal became the first batsman in the history of Test cricket to hit 20 or more sixes in a single series, marking a historic milestone in the game’s 147-year legacy. His aggressive batting not only contributed to his records but also helped India set a new world record for the most sixes hit by a team in a Test series, surpassing their previous record of 47 against South Africa in 2019.

With 48 sixes to their credit, India’s batting prowess overshadowed England (43) and Australia (40), securing the top spot in the list of teams with the most sixes in a series. Additionally, India’s performance in the Rajkot Test saw them break their record for the most sixes hit in a single match, reaching an impressive total of 28 sixes, surpassing their previous best of 27 against South Africa in Vizag in 2019.

In the second innings, India continued their aggressive approach, hitting a total of 18 sixes, further solidifying their dominance in the match. Jaiswal’s exceptional innings, which included 14 fours and 12 sixes, saw him retire hurt on 104 before returning to the crease and finishing unbeaten on 214 alongside Sarfaraz, as India declared with a commanding lead of 556 runs.

While England’s bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, Rehan Ahmed conceded 108 runs for his solitary wicket, with Joe Root and Tom Hartley also picking up a wicket each. Overall, Jaiswal’s remarkable performance and India’s relentless display of power-hitting left an indelible mark on the match, showcasing the emergence of a new cricketing superstar and the team’s formidable batting lineup.
