Ahead of its much-anticipated release, Taylor Swift shared insights about her upcoming album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” on social media just hours before its debut. Swift announced that the first single from the album would be “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone.
In her announcement, Swift commended Post Malone’s musical innovation and ability to craft melodies that linger in the mind long after listening. “I had the privilege of witnessing that magic firsthand while collaborating on ‘Fortnight,'” Swift expressed in a tweet.
“Fortnight” is not the sole collaboration on the album. Swift revealed that Florence and The Machine also contributed to the new record.
Tonight at midnight EDT marks the eagerly awaited release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” but fans have even more to anticipate on Friday.
At 8 p.m. EDT, the music video for the album’s debut single will make its premiere.
The album comprises 16 songs.
Additionally, there will be four bonus tracks titled “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross,” and “The Black Dog.” These bonus tracks will be exclusively available on separate physical album editions and won’t be accessible on the streaming version.
Traditionally, Swift has made vinyl exclusives accessible on streaming platforms a few months after their physical release.
The average duration of tracks on “The Tortured Poets Department” is 4 minutes and 4 seconds, making it the third longest average across Swift’s discography.
The longest song on the album is “But Daddy I Love Him,” clocking in at 5 minutes and 40 seconds, while “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” is the shortest at 2 minutes and 36 seconds. The lengths of the bonus tracks have yet to be disclosed.
Fans were quick to observe that “The Tortured Poets Department” is significantly longer than any previous title of a Taylor Swift album, with her third album, “Speak Now,” holding the previous record. Prior to “TTPD,” “Speak Now” was the only album title comprising more than one word.
Much of the speculation surrounding the new album and its unconventional title centers on Swift’s breakup with British actor Joe Alwyn in 2023, following their six-year relationship.
Both Florence + the Machine and Post Malone are featured artists on the album, with both being credited as co-writers on their respective songs.
The album was produced by Aaron Dessner, a songwriter, producer, and member of The National and Big Red Machine, along with Taylor Swift’s longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff. Dessner contributed as a songwriter to five tracks on the standard album, while Antonoff co-wrote eight tracks.
Swift herself is credited as a songwriter on every track of the standard album, including two songs she wrote entirely by herself: “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys” and “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?”
