Veteran Broadcaster and Poet Mir Mohammad Farooq Nazki Passes Away at 83

Mir Mohammad Farooq Nazki, a revered broadcaster, poet, and Sahitya Akademi laureate, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 83 in a hospital in Katra.

According to sources close to the family, Nazki had been unwell for the past few years and had relocated to live with his son in Jammu. On Monday night, he suffered a heart attack. His body is being transported from Jammu to Srinagar and will be laid to rest at the Malkha graveyard on Wednesday.

Throughout his career, Nazki held significant roles in All India Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan. In 1995, he was honored with the Sahitya Akademi award in Kashmiri for his poetry collection titled “Naar Hyutun Kanzal Wanas” (Fire in the Eyelashes). Additionally, he served as the media advisor to two chief ministers, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.

The passing of the veteran journalist has been mourned by people from various walks of life.
