Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney and popstar Lady Gaga recently faced criticism for a joint post celebrating International Women’s Day.
In a photo shoot, Gaga sat on a crate in towering heels while Mulvaney stood behind her. Both wore black attire, with Gaga in a long woolen dress and Mulvaney in a short sequined dress with tassels, paired with black stockings.
In an Instagram clip, Gaga expressed admiration for Mulvaney, saying, I’m putting you on my vision board, for life to which Mulvaney responded with affection. They shared the message Put this on your vision board, world, we love you.
The photoshoot took place at an event featuring Gaga’s cosmetic brand, Haus Labs, and pharmaceutical company Clinuvel. Mulvaney also posted a photo with Gaga’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta.
However, online trolls targeted Mulvaney’s posts with abuse, questioning their gender identities and hurling derogatory remarks. Some labeled them as men and questioned their representation of women. Others accused Mulvaney of suffering from mental illness.
Despite the negativity, supportive comments also flooded in, praising Mulvaney for sharing the stage with a major celebrity.
Mulvaney rose to fame on TikTok for documenting her transition and gained further attention through a controversial Bud Light promotion. The brewing company released limited edition cans featuring Mulvaney’s face, causing a conservative backlash and a significant drop in sales for Bud Light’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch.
Mulvaney later expressed feeling intimidated to leave the house due to the backlash.
