Israeli tech investors Liron Petrushka and Naomi, who had been residing in California for several years, tragically lost their lives in a single-engine airplane crash during a snowstorm. The crash occurred near a railway station en route to Truckee Tahoe Airport, with authorities launching an investigation into the incident.
The couple, survived by their three children, were well-known figures in the Israeli tech scene. They had a successful track record, including the sale of their firm CommerceBid in 1999, which yielded nearly $200 million. They remained involved in the company post-sale and went on to invest in Check, which was later acquired by Intuit for approximately $360 million in 2014.
Additionally, the Petrushkas were active contributors to UpWest, a venture capital firm supporting Israeli-led companies in both Israel and the US. Prior to their investment career, Liron Petrushka had a notable stint as a soccer player for Hapoel Ramat Gan Givatayim.
The news of their untimely demise was met with shock and sadness, with tributes pouring in from various quarters. UpWest expressed devastation at the loss, while Liron’s former soccer club and colleagues in the tech industry also paid their respects.
As investigations continue into the crash, the legacy of Liron Petrushka and Naomi as pioneering investors and beloved members of the community will be remembered fondly.
