Marco Troper, the 19-year-old son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, tragically passed away at the University of California, Berkeley’s Clark Kerr Campus. His grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, confirmed his identity and death in a heartfelt Facebook post, expressing profound devastation.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when authorities found Troper unresponsive at approximately 4:23 p.m. UC Berkeley spokesperson Janet Gilmore stated that despite efforts by the Berkeley Fire Department to administer life-saving measures, Troper was pronounced dead upon their arrival.
While investigations are ongoing, there are currently no indications of foul play, according to Gilmore. Troper, in his second semester as a freshman, was described by his grandmother as a bright and enthusiastic student majoring in mathematics at UC Berkeley.
Esther Wojcicki highlighted Troper’s academic success and vibrant social life, noting his involvement in both dormitory and fraternity communities. She reminisced about his fond stories of Berkeley and expressed profound sadness at the untimely loss, mourning the experiences and opportunities that Troper will never have.
