Tragic Loss: Former Sunrise Reporter Nathan Templeton Found Deceased in Geelong Park

Nathan Templeton, a well-known former reporter for Seven’s morning show Sunrise, was discovered dead in a park near the Barwon River in Geelong. The 44-year-old is said to have experienced a medical emergency while walking his dog.

Authorities were alerted to the scene in Newtown, Geelong, on Tuesday at 2:30 pm, where Templeton was found deceased. Police have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and a report will be submitted to the coroner.

Templeton is survived by his wife and two young sons, with his family expressing profound sadness, describing him as an adoring father and cherished friend who will be deeply missed.

Having joined Seven from Network Ten in 2012 as a sports reporter for Seven News Melbourne, Templeton transitioned to Sunrise in 2016, serving as its Melbourne correspondent until 2022.

During his tenure on Sunrise, he covered significant events such as the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021.

In addition to his media career, Templeton spent six years working with the Geelong Football Club as a stadium announcer and event host, earning praise from the club’s chief executive, Steve Hocking, who hailed him as a beloved member of the Geelong family.

Lewis Martin, Seven Melbourne’s managing director and head of sport, expressed deep sadness on behalf of Templeton’s former colleagues, highlighting his dedication to storytelling and extending condolences to his family, particularly his children, during this difficult period.

Numerous former colleagues, including retired Sydney Swans player and current Seven Network boundary rider Jude Bolton, and Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas, also shared their condolences on social media platforms.
