During Ohio State University’s graduation ceremony, tragedy struck as an individual fell from the stands to their death. The incident occurred around midday near the area where the final graduates were entering Ohio Stadium, as reported by the Columbus Dispatch.
Authorities swiftly cordoned off the area, though details regarding whether the fall was accidental or intentional, and whether the individual was a student or not, remained unclear.
University spokesperson Benjamin Johnson conveyed that the institution was aware of the incident but lacked further details to disclose.
The atmosphere at the ceremony was somber, with visible distress among some attendees. Despite the tragic event, the commencement proceeded without acknowledgment from the speakers.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson assured that counseling and support resources would be made available for those affected.
Amidst the graduation, 12,555 students proudly received their diplomas or certificates in person, as per university records.
This unfortunate incident comes amidst recent disruptions on campuses nationwide due to Gaza war protests. Ohio State University itself saw over three dozen students and demonstrators facing misdemeanor charges following a crackdown on protests concerning investments in Israel.
