During this afternoon, a widespread outage gripped Telstra customers across Australia, leaving thousands unable to make calls for several hours. The country’s largest telecommunication company promptly acknowledged the issue via its website and on X, formerly known as Twitter, just minutes before 2 PM local time.
In a statement posted on X, Telstra reassured affected customers, stating, “If you’re a Telstra customer, you might be noticing some issues with mobile calls. We’re working on a fix and hope to get everything back up and running soon.”
Reports of disruptions flooded in from Telstra users shortly after midday, with complaints peaking around 1:48 PM, according to data from Downdetector.
Despite the inconvenience, Telstra assured that emergency calls to Triple Zero remained unaffected, and mobile data services continued to operate normally. This meant that customers could resort to alternative communication channels such as Messenger, WhatsApp, and Facetime for making calls.
After diligent efforts to address the issue, Telstra declared it resolved by 2:30 PM (AEDT), restoring regular service to its affected customers across the nation.
