Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” has shattered Spotify’s record for most streams in a single day, solidifying her status as the platform’s most-streamed artist in a day.
The highly anticipated album dropped on Friday, sparking a global frenzy among Swift’s devoted fanbase, known as Swifties. With 31 tracks, the album delves into themes of heartbreak and seems to channel frustration towards past relationships.
Initially releasing 16 tracks at 5 am UK time, Swift surprised fans by unveiling an additional 15 tracks shortly thereafter, causing a whirlwind among music journalists.
Describing the album as a collection of new works capturing “events, opinions, and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time,” Swift declared that chapter of her life officially closed, with no need for retribution once wounds have healed.
The announcement of her 11th studio album came during a live performance at the Grammy Awards in February. Notable tracks include “So Long, London,” believed to reference her former partner, British actor Joe Alwyn, and “But Daddy I Love Him,” speculated to address past romantic rumors involving The 1975’s lead singer, Matty Healy.
Following the massive success of her previous album, “Midnights,” which sold 1.6 million copies in its debut week and earned her the Grammy for Album of the Year, Swift’s latest release has sparked anticipation among fans. This excitement extends to her blockbuster Eras tour, set to tour Europe this summer, where Swift revisits her extensive discography spanning 10 albums.
Swift’s album launch coincides with her recent accolade as Forbes magazine declared her a billionaire, marking another milestone in her illustrious career.
