Sydney Sweeney’s ‘Immaculate’ Earns Praise from Drew Barrymore: A Horror Surprise

Sydney Sweeney’s latest film, “Immaculate,” has garnered early praise from none other than Drew Barrymore herself. During a recent appearance on Drew’s talk show, Sydney discussed the film, which Drew likened to the horror classic “Rosemary’s Baby.”

Reflecting on her father’s influence, Sydney shared, “He introduced me to the horror genre because he was a fan of horror films, loved horror films. Like Halloween is his favorite holiday. Rosemary’s Baby was one of our biggest draws of inspiration for Immaculate.”

Drew continued to shower accolades on the film, expressing, “You can say whatever you want I don’t want to give anything away because I went in not exactly knowing and I was so shocked along the way I did not see any of the things coming and I certainly did not see that ending coming it is…I’m not spoiling a thing. Just trust me. This film is such a surprise and delights in the most horrifying scary terrifying way.”

“Immaculate” features Sydney Sweeney portraying an American nun at a secluded Italian convent. Released by Neon after premiering at SXSW, the film opened to $5.4 million on 2,354 screens in North America. Despite Sydney’s rising star power, the film’s success doesn’t match that of her previous rom-com hit, “Anyone But You.”

David A. Gross, writing for the consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research, remarked, “The movie features the popular Sydney Sweeney, but horror movies are not cast-driven. They’re driven by the hook: the evil doll, the wicked smile, the invisible or silent presence, the found footage, the possessed child. That’s what terrifies the horror crowd. The hook is not completely clear here.”

Sydney gained widespread recognition for her role as Cassie in the HBO series “Euphoria,” alongside stars like Zendaya and Jacob Elordi.
