A 77-year-old man was reportedly shot inside an office building in Sydney’s CBD, allegedly by a 79-year-old man wielding a semi-automatic pistol.
According to reports, the incident occurred at 219 Castlereagh Street shortly before 1 pm on Wednesday. Initially, there were reports of multiple people shot, but police later confirmed only one victim.
Detective Inspector David El-Badawi informed reporters that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his groin and was attended to by paramedics. He was described as being in stable condition and was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital.
The alleged shooter, also in his mid-70s, was apprehended at the scene and is currently in custody at Day Street police station. Despite police presence within three minutes, the suspect is uncooperative.
El-Badawi commended the bravery of the five or six staff members who subdued the alleged shooter. Investigations are ongoing, and it’s too early to determine if the attack was targeted. Authorities have ruled out connections to outlaw motorcycle gangs or gang warfare.
The building where the incident occurred houses various businesses, including law firms, the Greek consulate, and other corporate offices.
