On Sunday, three Louisiana police officers were wounded by gunfire during a standoff with an armed individual, who was subsequently fatally shot by a police sharpshooter, according to authorities and news reports.
Sheriff Joseph Lopinto stated that a sniper from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office intervened, killing the suspect at a residence in Kenner. The suspect had barricaded himself inside the home, engaging in gunfire with law enforcement officers after injuring three officers who attempted to enter the premises, as reported by WGNO-TV.
The injured officers were promptly transported to a nearby hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds on Sunday morning in Kenner, approximately 15 miles west of New Orleans, revealed Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley.
The suspect was sought in connection with an earlier shooting incident on Sunday, during which two individuals sustained injuries, according to Kenner police spokesman Capt. Michael Cunningham.
All three wounded officers, along with the two other victims, were reported to be in stable condition, as detailed by WGNO.
Additionally, the suspect was implicated in a robbery and shooting incident on Tuesday, resulting in critical injuries to an individual, Cunningham added.
