Shakira Embraces Single Life, Dubs Ex Gerard Piqué ‘Voldemort’ in Latest Song; Advocates Honesty with Children

Colombian music icon Shakira, renowned for her captivating vocals and songwriting prowess, has recently opened up about her journey post-separation from an ex-partner and former professional footballer, Gerard Piqué Bernabeu. The couple, who had been together for a remarkable 11 years, announced their split in June 2022, citing the well-being of their sons, Milan and Sasha, as their utmost priority.

In a candid conversation with Zane Lowe on his Apple Music podcast, Shakira candidly expressed her feelings about the newfound freedom of not being tied down by marriage. She revealed that while she couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason, being without a husband felt liberating and uplifting, contrasting her previous sentiments where she felt her relationship with Piqué was dragging her down.

The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer delved into the sacrifices she made for her relationship, particularly concerning her career, and how she is now using music as a means of healing and self-expression. Shakira confessed that she feels an intense drive to create and produce music like never before, describing it as a compulsive need that has surged within her post-separation.

During the podcast, Shakira reflected on her emotional journey and how she has channeled her experiences into her music, using it as a form of therapy to piece herself back together. She emphasized the importance of being open about one’s emotions, especially with her children, and acknowledged that while she is still healing, her art serves as a conduit for her pain and growth.

In a bold artistic move, the 47-year-old singer released her latest song, ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), which serves as a diss track directed towards her ex-partner, Gerard Piqué. In the song, she refers to him as “Voldemort,” symbolizing her desire to move past the pain and signify closure in their relationship.

Shakira’s journey of self-discovery and healing serves as a testament to her resilience and artistic evolution. Despite the challenges of separation, she remains committed to prioritizing the well-being of her children and continuing her musical legacy with renewed passion and purpose.
