In a recent appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Colombian singer Shakira, 47, opened up about her newfound sense of liberation following her split from longtime partner Gerard Piqué. The couple, who parted ways in 2022 after an 11-year relationship, share two sons, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.
During the interview, Shakira discussed her latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, her first in seven years. She attributed the delayed release to the demands of her marriage, jokingly remarking, “I’m husband-less now… The husband was dragging me down. Now I’m free. Now I can actually work.”
Explaining the album’s title, which translates to “Women no longer cry,” Shakira emphasized the need for women to reclaim their emotional autonomy. She stated, “For too long we have been sent to cry with a script in our hands and without an end just because we are women… No one is supposed to tell a She-wolf how to lick her wounds.”
Fallon showcased the vibrant vinyl covers of the album, adorned with emerald, ruby, diamond, and sapphire designs, as Shakira delved into the emotional journey behind the music. “I was raw. I was dealing with a lot of stuff… Music was the glue,” she expressed.
Reflecting on her creative process, Shakira described channeling pain and frustration into strength and resilience, comparing herself to a diamond in her ability to endure adversity. Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, her 12th studio album, features a blend of new tracks and previously released hits, including collaborations with artists like Cardi B.
The album serves as a testament to Shakira’s unwavering spirit and artistic evolution, showcasing her ability to transform personal struggles into powerful expressions of creativity and resilience.
