It’s with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Brit Turner, drummer and founding member of the country rock band Blackberry Smoke. Brit lost his battle with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, on Sunday. He was diagnosed with this aggressive tumor in the fall of 2022, and since then, he fought bravely every single day.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, the band expressed their sorrow, describing Brit as an incredibly caring, empathetic, and driven individual. He was the guiding force behind Blackberry Smoke, shaping the band’s ethos and direction.
Glioblastoma is a particularly aggressive brain tumor, more commonly affecting older adults and men, according to medical experts.
Brit co-founded Blackberry Smoke with his bandmates in 2000, and together they achieved significant success in the country rock scene. Their albums, including “Holding All The Roses” and “Like An Arrow,” topped charts in both the U.S. and U.K. The band also made notable appearances on television, including shows like ‘The Tonight Show’ and ‘Conan.’
Musicians from all over have been sharing their condolences on social media. Nick Perri of The Underground Thieves described Brit as incredibly kind and supportive, while Butch Walker, a longtime friend, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his ‘brother.’
Brit Turner leaves behind a legacy of music and memories that will undoubtedly continue to inspire fans and fellow musicians alike.”
