In a discussion with GB News, royal author Alexander Larman likened the determination of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to that of American socialite Wallis Simpson and her husband King Edward, suggesting they represent a modern-day version of the controversial royal couple.
The comparison stems from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor’s history, where King Edward VIII abdicated the throne in 1936 to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson, causing significant controversy.
Larman pointed out similarities, noting Prince Harry’s perceived haplessness akin to the Duke of Windsor, while Meghan’s strong-willed nature resembles that of the Duchess.
Regarding their decision to step back from senior royal duties, Larman expressed that he doesn’t see it as damaging to the Royal Family, as the couple seems to thrive on controversy. He highlighted Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” as an example of their pursuit of attention.
The conversation also delved into recent health concerns within the Royal Family, notably King Charles and Princess Kate’s treatments for cancer. Larman noted the unprecedented nature of two senior royals facing significant health issues simultaneously and discussed the public’s fascination with the royal family’s well-being.
