India’s star wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant, has been given the green light to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament, marking a remarkable recovery from a serious car accident in 2022, as confirmed by the country’s cricket board.
Following a rigorous 14-month rehabilitation process, Pant has been officially deemed fit to resume his role as a wicketkeeper-batter for the Delhi Capitals franchise in the highly anticipated Twenty20 competition. The announcement was made through a statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official platform.
Pant, aged 26, is a key player for the Delhi Capitals and is expected to take charge of both wicketkeeping and batting duties as the 2024 IPL season kicks off on March 22. The Delhi Capitals are scheduled to commence their campaign against the Punjab Kings on the following day.
The cricketer encountered a harrowing car accident near Roorkee, situated in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, on December 30, 2022. Despite sustaining multiple injuries to his head, back, and leg, Pant demonstrated remarkable resilience by exiting the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.
Pant’s last appearance on the cricket field was during India’s Test match against Bangladesh, held between December 22 and 25, 2022. His successful return to the sport not only signifies his personal triumph over adversity but also opens the door for potential selection in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and the United States.
