Sam Rubin, a beloved figure in the entertainment industry and a familiar face as KTLA’s morning entertainment anchor in Los Angeles, passed away on Friday at the age of 64.
During the 1 p.m. newscast, KTLA anchor Frank Buckley delivered the heartbreaking news, describing Rubin as an integral part of the KTLA family. “Our hearts are shattered… Sam Rubin was KTLA,” Buckley shared emotionally. “The Sam you saw on air was the same Sam off air.” He also emphasized Rubin’s deep devotion to his roles as a husband and father.
Survived by his wife Leslie and four children, the circumstances surrounding Rubin’s death remain unclear, although reports indicate he suffered a heart attack at his Brentwood residence.
KTLA mourned Rubin’s passing on social media, remembering him for his infectious laugh, warmth, and dedication to his family. Rubin’s career spanned decades, beginning his tenure at KTLA in 1991. He was also a key figure in the entertainment industry, co-founding the Broadcast Film Critics Association and hosting the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards in 2013.
Additionally, Rubin hosted his own show, “Hollywood Uncensored with Sam Rubin,” and remained active in his professional pursuits until his passing, as evidenced by his recent interview with Jane Seymour.
His sudden death has left colleagues and fans in shock, with KTLA technology reporter Rich DeMuro expressing his disbelief and offering condolences to Rubin’s family.
Beyond his professional achievements, Rubin was known for his philanthropic endeavors, including his advocacy for multiple sclerosis research through an annual bike ride fundraiser.
Sam Rubin leaves behind a legacy of professionalism, warmth, and generosity that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
