Remembering Brian McCardie: Tributes Pour In for Beloved ‘Line of Duty’ Actor

Scottish actor Brian McCardie, best known for his role as Tommy Hunter in the BBC series “Line of Duty,” passed away at the age of 59 on Sunday.

His sister, Sarah McCardie, shared the heartbreaking news on her social media account, expressing deep sorrow over his sudden demise. “With heavy hearts, we announce the untimely passing of Brian James McCardie, cherished son, brother, uncle, and dear friend to many,” her post read. “Brian, a talented and passionate actor on both stage and screen, left us unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, April 28th. His love for his craft touched countless lives, and his departure leaves a profound void. We will forever cherish his memory and kindly request privacy as we navigate this difficult time.”

United Agents, representing McCardie, also confirmed the tragic news, expressing shock and profound sadness. “We are devastated by the sudden loss of Brian McCardie, a supremely talented actor whom we had the privilege to represent,” their statement read. “Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this incredibly challenging period.”

Although McCardie’s appearances in “Line of Duty” were limited to the show’s early seasons, his portrayal of Tommy Hunter left a lasting impression. Series creator Jed Mercurio and executive producer Simon Heath paid tribute to his remarkable talent and noted his stark contrast to the character he portrayed. “Brian’s portrayal of Tommy Hunter showcased his incredible skill as an actor, leaving an indelible mark on the series,” they remarked in a statement to the BBC. “Off-screen, he was a warm, humorous, and charming individual. Our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones.”

McCardie was in the midst of filming the Outlander prequel “Blood of My Blood” at the time of his passing. His diverse body of work includes notable credits in “Time,” “Rob Roy,” “Filth,” “The Damned United,” and “Murder Is Easy.”
