The status of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as members of royalty has been called into question, particularly in the United States, following assertions from a globally recognized figure that their actions have distanced them from their royal lineage. Since stepping down from their royal duties in 2020, the couple has made their home in California. This decision not only created divisions within the royal family but also shifted public perceptions of them in the United States.
American musician Huey Morgan, renowned for his role in the Fun Lovin’ Criminals hip-hop band, recently shared his thoughts with Express.co.uk. Having relocated to the UK himself, Morgan perceives a waning interest in Harry and Meghan among the American audience, attributing it to their association with the “Hollywood clique.” Furthermore, their decisions post-move to the US have led to a disconnect with certain royal supporters, triggering discussions regarding their motivations for departing the UK. Consequently, their diminishing popularity has become a prominent subject of conversation.
Morgan further remarked that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faded from the limelight compared to Prince William and Kate Middleton. “They relinquished their royal titles, right? So now he’s just another guy living in America, like 340 million other people. I don’t think Americans really see them as royalty; they view Charles, William, and his wife as royalty, and he [Harry] is like the guy who opted out, you know,” he conveyed to the outlet.
The musician pointed out that Prince Harry’s connections with Hollywood celebrities have raised eyebrows and prompted skepticism from the public. He contends that many Americans regard the Royal Family as a captivating yet somewhat detached spectacle, akin to an attraction at Disney World. Morgan suggests that the allure stems from people’s curiosity about the inner workings of the palace.
Since their relocation to the United States, the couple has made a series of disclosures and revelations about the British royals, spanning memoirs, Netflix productions, and interviews. According to Huey, this candidness has left many Americans feeling as though they’ve betrayed the family by airing personal matters so publicly. However, he also notes that some Americans empathize with Harry, particularly considering the challenges he endured after his mother’s death and his marriage to an American.
In 2020, Prince Harry, the youngest son of King Charles and Princess Diana, chose to step away from his royal responsibilities alongside his wife, Meghan Markle. Although they no longer carry the titles of His or Her Royal Highness, they retain their positions as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Prince Harry still holds his title as a prince and remains fifth in line to the British throne.
