The Princess of Wales is anticipated to undertake her inaugural significant engagement post-operation when she presides over the trooping the color event in June.
Catherine has been recuperating from abdominal surgery for the past seven weeks, and while an official return date to public duties has not been confirmed, it was expected that she would continue to recover until at least Easter.
This information regarding her purported first engagement was disclosed on the British army’s website, where tickets for the 8th of June event are being advertised, with a notification stating: “Reviewed by her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales.”
The ceremony is scheduled to be held the weekend before the primary trooping the colour event, traditionally reviewed by the monarch.
The British army’s website also lists King Charles as attending the main ceremony, known as the Birthday Parade, marking the sovereign’s official anniversary.
Amidst speculation about her health, the princess has been seen being driven close to her home in Windsor. An image circulating online depicted her wearing sunglasses, seated in the front seat of a car driven by her mother, Carole Middleton.
While the army’s notice implies Catherine’s expected return to public engagements in June, only Kensington Palace, her official office, can confirm her attendance at a royal event. Such confirmation is not expected until closer to the event date.
Following her discharge from the hospital on January 29th, she has been recuperating at her Adelaide Cottage home near Windsor Castle.
Upon her release, a spokesperson from Kensington Palace remarked: “She is making good progress. The prince and princess wish to express their immense gratitude to the entire team at the London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided. The Wales family continues to appreciate the well wishes they have received from around the world.” It was understood then that her return to official duties would be contingent upon medical advice nearer to the time.
The King, currently undergoing treatment for cancer, has also postponed all public-facing duties. However, he is continuing with his work on state papers and some in-person meetings behind the scenes.
Charles was photographed during a pre-budget audience with the Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, prior to the politician’s major financial statement on Wednesday.
