Pierce Brosnan Endorses Cillian Murphy as Next James Bond

At the recent Oscar Wilde Awards in Los Angeles, former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan shared his thoughts on who should step into the iconic spy’s shoes next, following Daniel Craig’s departure from the role in 2021. Brosnan suggested fellow Irish actor Cillian Murphy, stating that Murphy would excel as James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Both Brosnan and Murphy were present at the event, which celebrated Irish talent.

During his tenure as Bond from 1995 to 2002, Brosnan starred in four films: GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. Following his departure, Daniel Craig took over the role, appearing in five films from 2006 to 2021. Since Craig’s exit, speculation has been rife about who will be the next 007, with names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Regé-Jean Page, and Henry Cavill being thrown into the mix. So, no official announcements have been made yet.

Cillian Murphy’s profile has surged notably over the past year, particularly with his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer, a performance that has earned him acclaim and numerous awards, including the BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG trophies. Murphy’s success extends to his recent film, Small Things Like These, a historical drama that premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. With his schedule appearing relatively free following these projects, Murphy could be a strong contender if Brosnan’s prediction proves accurate.
