Pep Guardiola praised Phil Foden’s exceptional form as Manchester City secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Brentford on Monday, with Foden netting a hat-trick to elevate City to joint-second alongside Arsenal in the Premier League standings. They sit just two points behind leaders Liverpool, with Guardiola’s side also having a game in hand.

City’s resilience was on display once again as they became the first team in Premier League history to win four consecutive away matches despite conceding first in each game. Brentford took an early lead through Neal Maupay, but Foden’s equalizer just before halftime shifted the momentum decisively in City’s favor.

Guardiola lauded Foden’s goal-scoring prowess, highlighting his pivotal role in City’s campaign this season. The victory underscored City’s credentials as they aim to secure an unprecedented fourth consecutive English top-flight title.

Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken, initially considered the league’s weakest in terms of shot-stopping percentage, put on a remarkable display, making nine saves in the first half alone. Despite his heroics, City’s relentless attacking eventually paid off, with Foden capitalizing on a Kevin De Bruyne assist to complete his hat-trick.

While Brentford had their opportunities to level the score, City’s defensive resilience and clinical finishing secured their 11th win in 12 games. Erling Haaland, making his first start in two months, played a crucial role in setting up Foden’s final goal.

With Arsenal’s win over Liverpool serving as an additional boost, City remain the frontrunners as they approach the critical stages of the season. Brentford, meanwhile, find themselves still precariously positioned above the relegation zone after the defeat.
