Patrick and Brittany Mahomes extended their support to the Reyes family, who were affected by the tragic mass shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs parade. The Reyes family, whose daughters, aged 8 and 10, sustained gunshot wounds during the incident, expressed gratitude for the Mahomes’ visit.
Following the shooting, both girls underwent surgery for leg injuries and are now undergoing physical therapy for their recovery, expected to be in casts for several months. The emotional healing process continues for the entire family, especially as they mourn the loss of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a beloved 43-year-old DJ and relative of the Reyes family, who was fatally shot during the parade.
The girls were among the celebrants at the parade with multiple family members when the gunfire erupted near Union Station after the Chiefs rally. Despite the trauma, the family remains thankful for the progress their daughters have made and appreciative of the care provided by the staff at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
The shooting, deemed the result of a dispute by police, claimed one life and left 22 injured. Initially, three suspects were detained, including two juveniles who remain in custody. Court officials have confirmed that the juveniles face charges in juvenile court for gun-related offenses and resisting arrest. Prosecutors have indicated that they may face adult charges pending certification for trial as adults.
