Carolina Bolsters Offense with Diontae Johnson Acquisition, Steelers Strengthen Defense with Donte Jackson Trade
In a strategic move, the Panthers have added another weapon to quarterback Bryce Young’s arsenal by acquiring wide receiver Diontae Johnson from the Steelers. The deal also includes a 2024 seventh-round pick from Pittsburgh.
Johnson, a former third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, has been on the trade radar leading up to free agency despite leading the Steelers in receptions in two of the past three seasons. With 4,363 yards and 25 touchdowns in his five-year NFL career, Johnson brings both experience and playmaking ability to the Panthers’ offense. Although he has faced challenges with drops early in his career, Johnson’s knack for getting open and consistent reception rates make him a valuable addition to Carolina’s roster.
On the flip side, the Steelers are bolstering their defense with the acquisition of cornerback Donte Jackson and a 2024 sixth-round selection from the Panthers. Jackson, a 2018 second-rounder, has showcased his skills in 80 games for Carolina, tallying 14 interceptions. His arrival adds depth and experience to Pittsburgh’s defensive lineup, alongside recent addition Patrick Queen.
With these trades, both teams are aiming to strengthen key areas of their respective rosters as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
