In a historic move, NASCAR has taken decisive action by rescheduling the L.A. Clash to Saturday night, aiming to preempt severe weather approaching Los Angeles. The decision, prompted by the threat of life-threatening flooding, prioritizes fan safety. Racing would likely be rendered impossible until Wednesday once the severe weather hits, even with wet-weather options for damp conditions.
In an official statement, NASCAR expressed gratitude to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Los Angeles Public Safety for their collaboration, enabling the schedule adjustment for tonight’s event and ensuring a secure experience for fans, competitors, and staff. Acknowledging the potential worsening weather conditions, fans are encouraged to prioritize safety in their decisions.
The L.A. Clash is now set to commence at 8 p.m. ET with coverage on FOX Sports 1, followed immediately by the NASCAR Mexico Series race. Heat races and the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) have been canceled, and the starting lineup will be determined by practice speeds. The fastest 22 drivers will advance to the main event, with the 23rd position reserved for the highest 2023 points-finisher not yet locked in. Practice is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. ET.
For ticketholders, NASCAR assures that they will be contacted in the coming days regarding the next steps to accommodate the unprecedented impact on the event. Pre-booked Sunday parking purchased through ParkWhiz will be fully compensated.
Further schedule and refund updates will be available at nascarclash.com and the @nascarclash social media handles.
