During a recent IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, former India cricketer Suresh Raina caught up with his ex-teammate and CSK skipper, MS Dhoni. Amidst Dhoni’s stellar performance both with the bat and behind the stumps, Raina shared an intriguing detail from their conversation: Dhoni’s newfound enjoyment of Bhojpuri commentary during the IPL season.
Bhojpuri commentary, introduced by Jio Cinema in the 2023 season, has gained popularity among cricket fans nationwide. Raina disclosed Dhoni’s positive response to the commentary during their chat, quoting Dhoni as saying, “‘Bahut hi gajabe commentary kar rahe Bhojpuriya me.'” Raina also mentioned his appreciation for Haryanvi commentary during the exchange.
Raina made this revelation while speaking on Jio Cinema after footage showed him assisting Dhoni, who had recently recovered from knee surgery and was visibly uncomfortable due to post-match pain.
Despite his physical discomfort, Dhoni, who will soon turn 43, has delivered impressive performances with the bat. In a match against Delhi Capitals, he scored an unbeaten 37 off 16 balls, and in another match against Mumbai Indians, he smashed Hardik Pandya for 20 runs in just four balls, including three sixes. Overall, Dhoni has accumulated 59 runs from 25 balls at a remarkable strike rate of 236 during the IPL 2024 season.
