Alejandra Marisa Rodriguez, a 60-year-old lawyer from Argentina, made history by winning the Miss Universe title for the province of Buenos Aires. She is the first woman of her age to achieve this prestigious beauty title.
Competing against 34 other contestants, ranging in age from 18 to 73, Rodriguez emerged victorious in the beauty pageant held on April 24th.
Alejandra Marisa Rodriguez, hailing from La Plata, the capital city of Argentina’s Buenos Aires Province, initially pursued journalism after completing high school before transitioning to a career in law. She later found her niche as a legal advisor for a hospital, as revealed in an interview with an Argentinian television network.
Having believed she had surpassed the age limit for global beauty pageants, Alejandra’s perspective shifted when the rules evolved in 2023. Previously, Miss Universe contestants had to be between 18 and 28 years old and unmarried with no children. However, the pageant’s recent update allows women aged 18 to 73 to participate, regardless of other factors.
Alejandra Rodriguez, whose striking appearance has captured attention, attributes her looks to her lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of a healthy diet and regular physical activity. She advocates for maintaining overall well-being as the key to her appearance, stating, “The basic thing is to have a healthy life, eat well, do physical activity,” in remarks to the press.
For decades, ‘The Miss Universe pageants strictly limited contestants to women aged between 18 and 28. However, a report by the Independent revealed that in 2023, the Miss Universe Organization announced a groundbreaking change: starting from 2024, there would be no upper age limit for participation in these beauty contests. This decision opened the doors for women of all ages above 18 to vie for the coveted Miss Universe title.
After etching her name in history, Rodríguez addressed the media, emphasizing that her victory heralded a new era in beauty pageants. She emphasized the importance of values beyond physical appearance, signaling a paradigm shift in the industry. Expressing her excitement, she noted that she is honored to represent this progressive approach to beauty pageants.
“I am proud to be the first of this generation to embark on this journey,” she remarked.
Reflecting on her win, Rodríguez attributed her success to her confidence and dedication to representing the women of her generation. Her passion for advocating for her peers resonated with the judges, propelling her to victory.
Now, Rodríguez is gearing up to compete in the national selection for Miss Universe Argentina, scheduled for May 2024. Determined and focused, she declared, “I am fully committed to vying for the crown of Miss Universe Argentina 2024.”
