Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko believes Charles Leclerc poses the biggest challenge to Max Verstappen’s bid for victory in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, with George Russell also in contention had it not been for his qualifying mistake.
Verstappen, coming off a flawless win in Bahrain, will start from pole position at the Jeddah circuit, aiming to extend his perfect start to the season. Leclerc lines up alongside him on the front row, with Sergio Perez in third.
Despite Russell’s error in qualifying, Marko acknowledges his potential, but notes that starting further back may hinder his chances. He emphasizes the importance of the start and a one-stop strategy, making overtaking difficult.
Speaking ahead of the race, Verstappen remains cautious about potential challenges from Leclerc, highlighting the importance of a good start and settling into the race. However, he expresses confidence in the team’s race pace.
Leclerc acknowledges the challenge posed by Red Bull’s pace but remains optimistic, aiming to give his best effort despite the odds. Meanwhile, Oliver Bearman, standing in for Carlos Sainz, focuses on patience and accumulating points in his debut race.
