Marcia Hines, renowned as a judge on the hit reality TV show Australian Idol, was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in her dressing room just before the grand final episode aired on Channel 7 last Sunday.
The incident took place at the Sydney Coliseum Theatre in Rooty Hill on Sunday afternoon, where Hines, 70, reportedly collapsed. As a result, Guy Sebastian stepped in as a substitute judge for the show’s finale.
According to sources, Hines experienced a medical emergency and was swiftly transported to the hospital by ambulance. Fortunately, she is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Hines took to social media to address her absence, apologizing to her nearly 40,000 followers and explaining that she had been feeling unwell. She assured her fans that she was resting and aimed to return for the following night’s broadcast.
During the episode, Australian Idol host Ricki-Lee Coulter announced Hines’s absence and wished her a speedy recovery. Fellow judge Kyle Sandilands emphasized the seriousness of the situation, dispelling any notion that Hines’s absence was trivial.
Social media flooded with messages of support for Hines, with many expressing their concern and well wishes for her swift recovery.
Hines has previously discussed her battle with Type 1 diabetes, a condition she was diagnosed with in her 30s. Despite managing the condition, the cause of her collapse on Sunday remains unclear.
Meanwhile, the Grand Finale of Australian Idol will continue over two nights on Channel 7, featuring contestants Denvah Baker-Moller, Amy Reeves, and Dylan Wright competing for the 2024 title.
