Kim Mulkey, the celebrated Louisiana State University women’s basketball coach, addressed The Washington Post’s recent profile on her illustrious career, revealing that she had not yet read the article despite its publication just hours before LSU’s Sweet 16 showdown against UCLA, a game they won 78-69, propelling them to the Elite Eight and the possibility of clinching a second consecutive national title.
In response to a reporter’s inquiry about the timing of the article, Mulkey expressed rhetorical surprise and stated that she hadn’t perused it, adding that she wasn’t sure if she would and leaving the decision to her attorneys.
Mulkey had previously criticized The Washington Post at a press conference on March 23, where she revealed that the reporter, unnamed by her, had been attempting to secure an interview for the piece for two years. She recounted the reporter’s request for responses to over a dozen questions by a tight deadline just before the commencement of the tournament’s first-round game, which she deemed unreasonable and intended to disrupt their focus on the tournament.
Asserting her willingness to take legal action against the publication if they published a false narrative about her, Mulkey emphasized her resolve to hold accountable those journalists who overstep their bounds, reaffirming her commitment to the integrity of her reputation amidst media scrutiny.
