Over the weekend, Rajon Rondo, a former NBA champion and Louisville native, found himself in legal trouble after being arrested in Southern Indiana. Indiana State Police reported that on January 28, Rondo was taken into custody during a traffic stop on I-65 in Jackson County, facing charges related to firearms and drugs.
The arrest unfolded when reports of a 2022 Tesla driving recklessly on I-65 in Bartholomew County reached the authorities around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Troopers spotted the vehicle upon its entry into Jackson County and conducted a traffic stop. Upon engaging with the driver, identified as 37-year-old Rajon P. Rondo, the trooper detected the odor of marijuana in the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.
Complicating matters, Rondo was prohibited from possessing the firearm due to an existing protection order against him. Following the discovery, troopers arrested Rondo and booked him into the Jackson County Jail, where he posted a bond and was released. A juvenile was also present in the car and was released to a family member.
Initially charged with possessing a firearm while being prohibited, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, Rondo is expected to appear in the Jackson County Superior Court for his preliminary hearing.
