Actor Will Ferrell, donning his beloved Ron Burgundy persona from “Anchorman,” infused uproarious laughter into Netflix’s live event in Los Angeles, where Tom Brady was the target of good-natured ribbing.
In a room brimming with jokes about Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bundchen and his renowned “golden skin,” Ferrell contributed his trademark humor. He took playful shots at Brady’s NFL counterpart Eli Manning, jesting, “Notice anyone missing? That’s right, Eli Manning’s absence speaks volumes. Tom’s got a healthy respect for him.” Ferrell then led the audience in a chant, “Eli Manning owned Tom Brady,” eliciting a mix of jeers and enthusiastic participation.
Ferrell didn’t spare Brady’s former Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, with quips like, “Hey Bill, wherever you are, just remember it was Tom, not you,” and a cheeky nod to Belichick’s job status, “Bill, now that you’re between gigs, good luck on ZipRecruiter.”
Later, Ferrell brought Belichick onto the stage, where the coach joined in roasting his star QB and teammates.
The spotlight then shifted to Ben Affleck, who affectionately balanced his love for Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffees and the New England Patriots while teasing his favorite NFL quarterback.
Greeted with a thunderous ovation, Affleck quipped, “I’m fashionably late. Ballsy move, Brady.”
Affleck’s well-known devotion to the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffees provided fodder for his roast. He humorously skewered the Patriots’ fan base, joking, “You’re not fans, you’re critics. Tough crowd.”
While not lacking in humor, Affleck also aimed some pointed jabs at Coach Belichick: “I’ve got season tickets. You’re on my payroll, buddy.”
As host Kevin Hart took the stage after Affleck, he remarked, “More white boy humor,” with Roastmaster Jeff Ross chiming in, “I wish Netflix had commercials for the first time.”
Their comments acknowledged the marathon-like three-hour ceremony, filled with its fair share of awkward moments.
Hart then introduced surprise roaster Peyton Manning, adding another layer of hilarity to the evening’s festivities.
