Kristen Stewart is ready to unveil her directorial debut, “The Chronology of Water,” but it hasn’t been an easy journey. In a candid interview with Porter magazine, Stewart didn’t hold back, discussing the financial challenges she faced in bringing her vision to life.
Addressing Hollywood’s representation of women, Stewart expressed frustration with the industry’s tendency to champion only a select few. She criticized the notion of ticking boxes to combat patriarchy, noting that while she admires women like Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig, the limited scope of recognition feels insincere.
Stewart acknowledged the achievements of her peers but emphasized the importance of genuine progress, suggesting that congratulating each other for minor advancements halts true systemic change.
Reflecting on her own career choices, Stewart admitted that the prospect of starring in a superhero movie feels daunting. She highlighted the need for a significant shift in the industry’s approach, expressing skepticism about the impersonal, algorithm-driven nature of blockbuster productions.
However, Stewart left room for possibility, noting that if offered a role by someone she deeply respects, like Greta Gerwig, she might reconsider.
Amidst discussions about Hollywood’s shortcomings, Stewart remains focused on her upcoming projects, including “The Chronology of Water” and her roles in “Sacramento” and the vampire film “Flesh of the Gods.”
In sharing her experiences, Stewart continues to challenge industry norms and advocate for greater inclusivity and authenticity in filmmaking.
