King Charles has reportedly requested his brother, Prince Andrew, to vacate the Royal Lodge. However, Prince William is not set to take over the grand mansion. So, who will? Amidst the ongoing tension between King Charles and Prince Andrew regarding the Royal Lodge, many speculated that Prince William, second in line to the British throne, would move into the grand 30-room mansion. However, a Royal expert has shed light on a different possibility.
Reports indicate that the monarch has asked the Duke of York to leave the Royal Lodge and relocate to the smaller Frogmore Cottage, previously owned by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. In an interview with GBN America, Royal commentator Lady Hervey seemed to support Prince Andrew, asserting that King Charles is trying to establish new rules by asserting control over royal properties.
Lady Hervey described the Royal Lodge as Andrew’s home, emphasizing that he holds a lease on the property and suggesting that it cannot simply be taken away. She claimed that King Charles wanted the Royal Lodge for Queen Camilla, rather than for Prince William.
During the interview, Lady Hervey highlighted that the monarch already possesses several residences. “They’ve got Windsor Castle. Why take a house that the Yorks have lived in for 20 years? Why do they have to keep going?” she questioned. She also pointed out that Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson have been caring for the late Queen Elizabeth’s beloved corgis since her passing. “They have the Queen’s corgis, why displace the corgis? And Prince Andrew, who was the favorite son. I just find it really quite disgusting,” she said.
Lady Hervey further questioned King Charles’s need to acquire another house, stating, “What does Charles need another house for?” She asserted that the King wanted the Royal Lodge for Queen Camilla.
Prince Andrew, 64, holds the Royal Lodge on lease, which has been his favorite residence. However, King Charles controls the finances. Despite the King’s request, Andrew has been reluctant to vacate the house where he has lived for over 20 years since signing the lease in 2003.
The King has reportedly threatened to sever ties with Andrew if he continues to stay in the £30 million house. Moreover, the monarch is considering reducing funding for his younger brother, particularly his £3 million security bill.
According to a Royal source, the King’s patience has limits, and Andrew has been offered a viable alternative in Frogmore Cottage, which would provide the advantage of being within the Windsor Castle security perimeter, thus reducing the need for separate round-the-clock security for the Royal Lodge.
If the Duke of York does not agree to move to a location that better suits his needs, the source indicated that the King may have to reconsider the support he is willing to provide.
