Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, leading him to temporarily step back from public-facing duties. The 75-year-old monarch had recently undergone a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate, during which a separate health issue was identified. Subsequent diagnostic tests confirmed the presence of cancer.
In a statement, the palace revealed, “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”
To address the diagnosis, King Charles has initiated a schedule of regular treatments, prompting doctors’ advice to postpone public engagements. However, he will continue to manage state affairs and official responsibilities during this period.
Expressing gratitude to his medical team for swift intervention, the King remains optimistic about his treatment and anticipates a return to full public duty at the earliest opportunity. The decision to disclose the diagnosis was made to prevent speculation and contribute to public understanding of cancer.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conveyed his wishes for King Charles’s speedy recovery, stating, “Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery. I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time, and I know the whole country will be wishing him well,” in a social media post.
