Kate Winslet’s Hilarious Behind-the-Scenes Moment in ‘Regime’ Revealed

In the political satire series “Regime,” Kate Winslet takes on the role of the eccentric dictator Chancellor Elena Vernham, ruling over a fictional European nation. As viewers delve into the dark yet comedic world of the HBO limited series, Winslet recently shared a humorous anecdote from the set, shedding light on a particularly amusing scene.

In the series, Winslet’s character, Chancellor Elena, develops a romantic relationship with her trusted confidant, Herbert Zubak, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, also known as “The Butcher” due to his gruesome past. By Episode 5, their committed but tumultuous romance is explored, leading to a comically awkward intimate moment.

During a press conference with HBO, Winslet recounted a scene from Episode 5 where Elena and Zubak engage in passionate activity, with Elena repeatedly admonishing Zubak for biting her fingers. The scene proved so uproarious that two crew members had to be escorted off set due to uncontrollable laughter.

Among those sent out were cinematographer Alwin Kuchler, whom Winslet jokingly referred to as a “repeat offender,” and a member of the hair and makeup team. Winslet humorously noted the challenge of sending off the makeup artist, given Matthias’s fake tattoos causing humorous mishaps during filming.

Despite the series’ dark and witty humor, Winslet emphasized the blossoming love story between Elena and Zubak, describing it as unexpected yet oddly beautiful. She praised the chemistry between the characters, emphasizing their peculiar bond as social misfits who find solace in each other’s company.

Alongside Winslet, the series boasts a stellar cast including Hugh Grant as Leader of the Opposition, Andrea Riseborough as Palace Manager, and Martha Plimpton as a US Senator. Created by Will Tracy, known for his work on “The Menu” and “Succession,” “Regime” premiered its first episode on March 3, 2023, with the season finale set to air on April 7, marking the end of Elena’s reign over the fictional European nation.
