The first trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux” has dropped, showcasing Joaquin Phoenix reprising his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck, alongside Lady Gaga as the equally twisted Harley Quinn.
Set in Arkham Asylum, where Joker is incarcerated at the film’s start, the trailer reveals a deranged encounter between Arthur and Harley, leading to a bizarre romance. Together, they plan a daring escape to embrace the world outside their confines, dancing manically through the streets of Gotham.
In this sequel, Arthur’s stand-up comedy takes a new turn with Harley as his muse, and she dons his signature makeup. Despite their dark pasts, they find solace in each other’s company.
Director Todd Phillips teased the sequel at CinemaCon, revealing it as a jukebox musical with an emphasis on music as a storytelling tool. While details on the plot remain scarce, Phillips assures fans that the essence of the original film remains intact.
Warner Bros. is set to release “Joker 2” on October 4, 2024, five years after the original’s debut.
