Jets Stage Epic Comeback to Stun Hurricanes 5-3 in Raleigh Thriller

Sean Monahan’s decisive goal with 3:13 remaining propelled the Winnipeg Jets to a remarkable comeback, overcoming a three-goal deficit in the third period to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday.

The turning point came when Carolina goalie Pyotr Kochetkov ventured far out of his crease in an attempt to clear the puck, only to be foiled. Monahan seized control of the puck and swiftly deposited it into the empty net as Kochetkov scrambled to retreat.

“We wanted to maintain pressure even after tying the game,” remarked Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness. “We chased down pucks aggressively, and the bounce went our way.”

Nino Niederreiter sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the waning moments, capping off his second goal of the period. Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele also found the back of the net for Winnipeg, marking their fifth win in six games.

“It’s always satisfying to secure a comeback win,” said Monahan. “Everyone stayed committed, and it was a significant team effort.”

Carolina’s Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas, and Teuvo Teravainen provided the early scoring, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Jets’ relentless surge. Andrei Svechnikov tallied two assists, while Kochetkov made 28 saves for the Hurricanes, who suffered their third loss in five games.

“Every goal against us stemmed from avoidable mistakes,” lamented Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour. “Against quality opponents, those errors will cost you.”

Trailing 3-0, the Jets orchestrated a remarkable comeback, netting three goals within the first six minutes of the final period. Connor kickstarted the rally with a goal from the point, followed by Niederreiter’s backhander and Scheifele’s equalizer on the power play.

“We felt our game was improving throughout the first 40 minutes,” noted Winnipeg defenseman Josh Morrissey. “It’s easier to build momentum from there than to rally after a lackluster start.”
