In the recent update of the WTC 2023-25 points table, India has surged to the top position ahead of the Dharamsala Test against England. This advancement came as Australia secured a crucial victory over New Zealand

In the latest update of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table, India has surged to the top position. This ascent occurred ahead of their upcoming Test against England in Dharamsala, as Australia secured a significant victory over New Zealand in Wellington.

Australia’s triumph over New Zealand in the first Test in Wellington witnessed a commendable performance, with Cameron Green’s century in the first innings and Nathan Lyon’s ten-wicket haul leading to a 172-run victory. This victory led to a drop in New Zealand’s points percentage (PCT) from 75 to 60, while Australia improved their PCT from 55 to 59.09. The two teams are scheduled to clash again in the second Test at Hagley Oval in Christchurch from March 3.

Looking ahead, New Zealand is slated to face Sri Lanka and India in away series later this year, culminating in a series against England at home in November-December. Meanwhile, Australia has two series remaining – the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India towards the end of 2024, followed by a two-Test tour to Sri Lanka in January 2025.

India, with a PCT of 64.58 from eight matches, is set to take on England in the fifth Test of the ongoing series with an opportunity to strengthen their lead in the WTC standings. England, currently positioned eighth, has faced six defeats and incurred a deduction of 19 points due to slow over-rate offenses.

The final Test between India and England is scheduled to take place in Dharamsala from March 7-11.

Below is the updated WTC 2023-25 points table standings following the first Test between New Zealand and Australia:
