In a remarkable display of collective passion for cinema, a group of prominent Hollywood directors, including JJ Abrams, Guillermo del Toro, and Gina Prince-Bythewood, gathered outside the iconic Village Theater in Westwood, Los Angeles. Their mission? To announce their joint stewardship of this historic movie venue, a beloved cornerstone of film culture since its opening in 1931.
This endeavor marks a significant milestone in the theater’s history, which was previously operated by Regency Theaters. Now, under the guidance of acclaimed director Jason Reitman, known for his work on “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and “Up in the Air,” more than 30 directors, including luminaries such as Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan, have stepped forward to ensure the preservation of this cultural landmark.
