A tragic incident occurred on the M27 near Southampton Airport involving a Mercedes lorry, Nissan Juke, and Volkswagen Polo.
It took place around junction five on Wednesday just after 12:30 GMT. Hampshire Police confirmed the lorry driver, a man in his 30s, tragically lost his life at the scene.
As a result of the crash, the westbound lanes of the motorway are closed between Fareham at junction nine and junction five, with traffic being diverted at junction nine to the A27. The situation was exacerbated as the lorry caught fire several hours later, causing damage to a gantry.
Authorities have arrested two men, aged 32 and 37, and a woman aged 40, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. All three individuals, who are of no fixed abode, are currently hospitalized. Additionally, a woman in the Nissan sustained minor injuries.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the accident or possesses dashcam footage to come forward with information.
