Disney’s beloved comedy, Wizards of Waverly Place, is making a triumphant return with a sequel. Disney Branded Television greenlights a pilot for the follow-up, executive-produced by original stars Selena Gomez and David Henrie.
Gomez makes a special appearance as her iconic character, Alex Russo, while Henrie reprises his role as Justin Russo in a series regular capacity. Joining the cast are talented newcomers Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos. Fans can anticipate the magic and humor that made the original series a hit, marking an exciting chapter for Wizards of Waverly Place enthusiasts.
Nostalgia Meets New Magic in Disney’s Latest Pilot
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, known for the Disney Channel comedy spinoff Raven’s Home, spearhead the revival pilot of Disney’s iconic series, Wizards of Waverly Place. The storyline unfolds after a mysterious event at WizTech, where adult Justin Russo, having forsaken his wizard abilities for a normal life with his family, faces an unexpected twist. A young and powerful wizard seeking guidance appears at his doorstep, compelling Justin to confront his past and secure the future of the Wizard World. This engaging narrative promises a blend of nostalgia and fresh magic, captivating both loyal fans and new audiences alike.

Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place revival pilot introduces the character Billie, portrayed by series lead Brown, a powerful young wizard mentored by Justin. Thiele takes on the role of Roman Russo, Justin’s eldest son, while Gianopulos plays Giada, Justin’s wife.
Joining executive producers Gomez, Henrie, Elinoff, and Thomas are Gary Marsh and Andy Fickman, with Fickman directing. Marsh, the former Disney Channels creative executive instrumental in the success of the original series, reunites with the cast for this magical journey.
The revival, stemming from years of speculation, brings back the essence of the beloved 2007-2012 series created by Todd J. Greenwald. Following the Russo family’s magical escapades, the original cast (minus Henrie) reunited in 2013 for The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex TV special. The pilot order aligns with Disney Branded Television’s strategy to enhance Disney Channel’s multi-camera sitcom lineup, delighting both longtime fans and new viewers.
Currently, Gomez is a prominent figure in the Disney family, serving as both a star and executive producer for the popular Hulu/20th TV comedy series “Only Murders In the Building.” She is represented by Lighthouse Management + Media, WME, and JSSK. Meanwhile, Henrie is represented by Untitled, Brown by Eris Talent Agency and MB Talent & Entertainment Management, Thiele by DDO Artists Agency, and Gianopulos by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
