In anticipation of the first-ever Super Bowl in Las Vegas, excitement mounts for many fans gearing up for a week of festivities. However, one prominent NFL announcer, ESPN’s Joe Buck, has expressed his reluctance to partake in the Sin City experience.
Buck, known for his play-by-play commentary on “Monday Night Football,” candidly admitted his lack of enthusiasm for the Las Vegas setting. In an interview with a St. Louis ESPN radio station, he cited concerns about logistical challenges and the potential for disruptive incidents amidst the city’s notorious allure.
While Buck clarified that his reservations aren’t indicative of doubts about the game’s quality, he emphasized his aversion to the high-energy party scene. “I’m not that way,” he remarked, “I’m not looking for the Maxim party and going out all night.”
He expressed apprehension about the combination of Vegas’s notorious reputation and the influx of NFL players and attendees. Speculating on potential mishaps, Buck cryptically referred to an anticipated “big something” that could overshadow the event.
Acknowledging recent controversies at Super Bowls past, such as allegations against former NFL star Michael Irvin, Buck’s concerns echo broader skepticism surrounding the league’s embrace of Las Vegas and its gambling culture.
Despite Buck’s reservations, the Super Bowl week kicked off without a hitch, with players from the Chiefs and 49ers engaging in media sessions and addressing pre-game topics. However, with the extravaganza in full swing, the spotlight remains on whether Vegas’s allure will lead to unforeseen incidents or if the event will proceed smoothly.
