Today, there was a concerning incident aboard an international flight heading to Auckland Airport, resulting in injuries to around 50 passengers. The incident occurred on LATAM Airlines flight LA800 from Sydney.
At around 3:58 pm, emergency services were alerted and more than 10 St John vehicles rushed to the airport. Crews treated approximately 50 patients, with one in serious condition and the rest experiencing minor to moderate injuries. Thirteen patients were taken to Middlemore Hospital.
The airline confirmed that the flight encountered a technical problem causing significant movement. Despite the incident, the plane landed safely and affected passengers and crew received immediate medical attention.
Witnesses described a sudden drop during the flight, with some passengers visibly shaken. Several were attended to by paramedics upon landing. Fortunately, everyone made it safely to New Zealand, though the severity of the situation for others remains unclear.
Auckland Airport’s emergency service team assisted St John, with additional ambulances dispatched to the scene. Police were aware of the incident but directed inquiries to St John.
As of 6 pm, ambulances were still leaving Auckland Airport. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety in air travel.
