A sudden movement during a LATAM Airlines flight from Sydney to Auckland has caused injuries to about 50 passengers, with 13 requiring hospitalization. Emergency services responded to the incident at Auckland International Airport after reports of injuries on LATAM Airlines flight LA800. St John Ambulance treated approximately 50 patients at the scene, with one individual in serious condition and the rest sustaining minor to moderate injuries.
The Chilean carrier, LATAM Airlines, attributed the incident to a technical problem on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, resulting in a “strong movement” that affected passengers and cabin crew. LATAM expressed regret for any inconvenience and injuries caused and emphasized its commitment to safety.
The incident comes amidst heightened scrutiny of Boeing following issues with some of its aircraft worldwide. In a separate incident, United Airlines flight UA830 from Sydney to San Francisco was forced to return to Sydney due to a reported leak, with no injuries reported.
