Ed Sheeran and Diljit Dosanjh Wow Mumbai Audience with Bilingual Duet Performance

Ed Sheeran pleasantly surprised his fans during the latest stop of his Asia and Europe tour in Mumbai, India, with a bilingual performance. The event, held at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse on Saturday (16 March), witnessed the “Shape of You” singer inviting a special guest to join him in a duet.

Indian singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, 40, took the stage to perform his hit track “Lover” to the delight of over 50,000 enthusiastic fans. What made the moment even more special was Sheeran’s participation, as he sang the lyrics in Punjabi alongside Dosanjh.

Both artists shared the memorable moment on their social media platforms. Sheeran expressed his excitement, stating, “Got to bring out Diljit Dosanjh tonight in Mumbai and sing in Punjabi for the first time. I’ve had such an incredible time in India, more to come!” Dosanjh, on the other hand, captioned his Instagram reel with “Brother Singing in Panjabi for the first time,” accompanied by flag emojis representing both India and the UK.

The reels quickly gained immense traction, accumulating over 50 million views and nearly 4 million likes within just 24 hours. Fans flooded the comments section with expressions of delight, with Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan chiming in with “Global domination,” a comment that garnered over 27,000 likes.

This collaboration between Dosanjh and Sheeran was widely praised, with one Instagram user describing it as “the collab we needed” and another expressing being “speechless” at the performance.

Dosanjh’s history of collaborating with non-Punjabi speaking musicians was also noted, particularly his track with Australian singer Sia titled “Hass Has,” where Sia delivered some lyrics in Punjabi.

Dosanjh, who made history by being the first Punjabi artist to perform at Coachella, has had a successful career since his debut in 2002. Similarly, Sheeran, known for his hit songs and global tours, released his seventh studio album, “Autumn Variations,” in September last year, inspired by composer Edgar Elgar.

Both artists continue to captivate audiences worldwide with their talent and unique collaborations, marking milestones in their respective careers.
