Easter Reflections: Embracing Renewal and Forgiveness Beyond Lent

This year’s Lent proved to be particularly arduous, not only due to the anticipation of Easter Alleluias and indulging in Cadbury dark chocolate eggs but also because of the relentless onslaught of distressing news. In the midst of a broken and tumultuous world, the need for salvation felt increasingly urgent, a sentiment that resonated deeply within me.

My Lenten journey was marked by struggles to uphold my resolutions, albeit none of them particularly demanding. Yet, each required a level of commitment and sacrifice that proved challenging amidst the chaos of life. From inadvertent slips in language to lapses in discipline, it felt like an uphill battle throughout.

However, as we transition into the season of Easter, the words of St. John Chrysostom offer solace and perspective. His Easter homily, with its message of inclusivity and forgiveness, reminds us that all are welcome at the table of celebration, regardless of our Lenten successes or failures.

As we partake in the richness of Easter, let us not forget the lessons learned during Lent. Just as Lent served as a period of reflection and preparation, Easter invites us to rejoice and embrace the abundance of grace bestowed upon us. St. Chrysostom’s words echo the timeless truth that Easter is a universal reward for all, irrespective of our shortcomings or achievements.

So, as we embark on this Easter season, let us savor every moment of celebration and gratitude. Let us not allow Easter to pass us by in haste, but instead, let us revel in its significance for the next 40 days and beyond. With hearts filled with joy and mouths filled with Cadbury eggs, let us proclaim the victory of life over death and the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
