On Saturday night, tragedy struck as a vehicle collided with a gate at the White House, resulting in the death of the driver. However, law enforcement authorities are emphasizing that the incident is being treated solely as a traffic accident, with no indication of any threat to the president’s residence.
The driver, a male whose identity remains unknown at this time, was discovered deceased inside the vehicle following the crash, which occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. The collision took place at an outer perimeter gate of the White House complex, as reported by the U.S. Secret Service in a statement.
According to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department, the vehicle crashed into a security barrier situated at the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
The Metro Police underscored in a statement shared on social media that, as of now, their Major Crash Investigations Unit is handling the incident strictly as a traffic crash.
Despite the severity of the situation, security measures were promptly implemented, and the Secret Service has assured the public that there was no direct threat to the White House itself.
Moving forward, the Secret Service will continue its investigation into the matter. However, the portion of the investigation concerning the fatal crash will be delegated to the Metropolitan Police Department, as announced by the agency.
